MEDIA Development Basics 101
Creativity is People
Creativity begins with people, and from people come artistic expression and the development of media concepts. In the past, everything was drawing or print with media related items. Now, media is digital and online. For over 27 years, PTI has been helping customers with their media needs and teaching them how they can contribute to the digital projects for a better online presence.
Creativity begins with people capturing images with photography or video. It can be drawing by hand. It can be designing with computer software or recording audio clips. Sometimes, it involves purchasing a musical track. All these ways help to build a presentation, whether it is a video, a multimedia presentation for a trade show, or a website.
Another form of media is content writing. It has been said, 'Content is King', so writing good words is very important. And, as seen over the years, a good media project always has the balance of visual media, spoken and written words.
Capturing with Tools
So, if you need both media and written words for the best media presentation, how is this accomplished? At PTI Solutions Group, we say: 'Media captures you, text keeps you." There is a side of capturing media with equipment, then there is creating the words and selecting the font type that will best display your words. All this is a creative and technical process.
PTI takes time to teach you the media process and terms. The media tools are growing all the time. Various media tools and equipment are being developed each year to help capture creativity with people's ideas. The key is to go from media capture to digital presentation and understand some technical terms, such as: pixel, pixelization, raster versus vector, and the difference between RGB and CYMK. Also, it is helpful to learn various computer file types: .gif, .jpg, .png, .svg, .wav, .mp3, .mp4. Then there are numerous computer media software file types like: .ai, .psd, .pdf, and more. Don't get overwhelmed, just take your time learning and you will enjoy the media world.
Other important concepts when learning how to capture media, with the available tools in the marketplace, is understanding Dots Per Inch (DPI) and Resolution. DPI for web is 72 dpi, and 300 dpi for an excellent media print quality. Resolution is a more complex topic. It can be defined as the computer display setting, number of pixels per given area, or even the file size. Make sure you explain what resolution you are discussing, so there is more clarity, whether file size, dimension, or device.
Development of Concepts
When creating digital projects make sure you have a plan. PTI always begins with a layout and storyboarding for the best presentation result. There's no 'perfect' way to approach media. Just be creative, enjoy your ideas, and it will always work.
